Saint Martin/Sint Maarten is located in the northeastern portion of the Caribbean Island chain. It is bordered by both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Captain Oliver's Resort is on the eastern portion of the island and straddles the French/Dutch border. The specific location is Oyster Pond which is a completely protected lagoon surrounded by hills. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: You will need either a passport or your birth certificate and official photo identification (e.g.: drivers license) to enter St. Maarten.

CLIMATE: Air temperatures vary little from summer to winter. The average year round temperature on the island is 83 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 degrees Celsius. The temperature of the ocean rarely drops below 77 degrees Fahrenheit or 25 degrees Celsius. Light trade winds prevail throughout the year, making even the warmest summertime temperatures comfortable. The average yearly rainfall is 45 inches or 114 centimeters. On those rare days when it does rain, it is usually in bursts which pass quickly.

DRESS: One of the great things about the Caribbean is the casual attire. Just bring a swimsuit or two, some shorts and t-shirts, a sun dress for the ladies and a light pair of trousers for the men and you'll be properly dressed for just about any occasion.

LANGUAGES: Employees at Captain Oliver's Resort speak a variety of languages, among them are English, French, Spanish, German and Italian.

ELECTRICITY: Because the hotel is located on the French side of the island the electricity is 220 volts. However, Captain Oliver's Hotel provides a 110 volt outlet in the bathroom for razors and hair dryers.

MEDICAL CARE: The hotel's doctor is on call 24 hours a day.

BABYSITTING: Babysitting services are available with a 24 hour notice.

CURRENCY: Both US dollars and Euros are accepted at Captain Oliver's Resort.

GUARANTEE REQUIREMENTS: To guarantee your reservations at Captain Oliver's Hotel, you can either supply a major credit card number or send a deposit. During the summer season it is a one-night deposit and during the winter season it is a three-night deposit.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If you need to cancel your reservations for some reason, please give the hotel at least a one-week notice during the summer season, and at least a two-week notice during the winter season to receive a full deposit refund.
